HOSPITALITY FOR BISHOP OF BUCKINGHAM’S VISIT
Sunday 17th February
Adanna and Judy have met to start making arrangements for the Bishop Alan’s visit. They thought the middle of February was the time for a hot lunch and the plan is to have rice and either chilli con carne or chicken casserole. It would be great if there are people who would volunteer to either make a big pot of chilli or casserole (say enough for 10?) or make a donation towards the cost. Carol is going to mastermind puddings! Please remember to sign up if you intend to be there.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF LAST COUNCIL MEETING
If you weren’t in church last Sunday you may want to see Mary about what happened at the last Council meeting. She has produced brief notes.
CHURCH DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
Visit from Jeremy Bell, Architect, 20 January 2019
Copies of the notes from the visit went like hot cakes last Sunday. There are a few more available this week if you still need to get your hands on a copy.
- ANDREW’S COFFEE MORNINGS
Carol needs someone to come forward for February. We’d like to continue the long-standing tradition of one every month. Saturday 24th February would be a good date, especially if you would prefer to host in church. Please speak to Carol. As well as being a good friendly get-together, the funds raised are very well-received!
UMBRELLA AMNESTY
You brave the long walk down the church path in the rain, pop your brolly in the black bucket, and are delighted when the rain stops and the sun starts to shine through our lovely stained glass windows. You stride out thankfully into the sunshine after service and of course don’t spot your umbrella hiding behind the open door! There’s an impressive collection – please retrieve yours today.
THANK YOU FOR HELPING ON WEDNESDAY MORNING
David would like to thank the 3 volunteers from the congregation and 3 members of staff from Parks Trust who came along to work with him on clearing one of the new (potential) wild flower areas along the south wall and show what a good working relationship like this can achieve.
THANK YOU FOR THE STAMPS
Lots have been brought in and are being delivered to Embrace towards the end of next week. Still time to bring yours if you’d forgotten – but they need to be here by Wednesday (see below). They provide vital funds for the Helen Keller Centre for blind children, near Jerusalem, particularly via sales to collectors.
Reminder ~ FIRST WEDNESDAY HOLY COMMUNION & OPEN CHURCH
Service at 10am with John Beazley followed by coffee and the church remaining open for companionship and joining the discussion group if you wish. All visitors are welcome – please invite your friends and neighbours to come along.
The next session of the “Towards a Simple Faith held in Knowledge” seminars will be on the topic “Coming to Belief” and John says “On Wednesday we start looking at the various possible ways in which we are ‘told’ about God. We shall begin by examining the five classical arguments from ‘natural theology’:- ‘first cause’, ‘design’, ‘morality’, ‘pure being’, and ‘human consensus’. We will then explore how Psalm 19 interprets these arguments as ‘general revelation’.”
Reminder ~ GAMES AFTERNOON
If you attended the first session, would like to attend future Games Afternoons, would like to contribute your ideas for activities, how the refreshments could be organised etc. please pick up a questionnaire from the steward’s area and return it with your comments as soon as possible. What you think really counts.
Reminder ~ SUPPORTING FOOD CUPBOARD
Thank you for the items you’ve brought in today. If you forgot, they can be brought into church on Wednesday morning (6th February).
